Nov & Dec Spanish classes and Mini Camps
Saturday 11.7 & 11.14 10am to 1pm Ages 4-10 Fall in the Garden
Children will harvest and explore heirloom corn, compare varieties, grind kernels into cornmeal, and discover how corn becomes foods like tortillas through a fresh tortilla tasting. Through Spanish conversation, storytelling, and Indigenous-inspired plant arts and crafts, children will celebrate maíz as a gift from the earth and honor Indigenous knowledge and traditions.
Wednesday 11.11.26 Veterans Day 8am to 12pm Ages 4-10
Celebrate Veterans Day with a special garden class inspired by Mi Mami es mi Heroína: Feliz Día de los Veteranos by Irma Vázquez. Children will explore gratitude, kindness, and the importance of honoring the brave men and women who have served our country through nature-inspired activities, storytelling, and creative garden projects. Together, we will celebrate our heroes, connect with nature, and plant seeds of gratitude in our garden!
Thanksgiving Mini Camp 11.23, 11.24, 11.25 8am to 12pm Ages 4-10
Join us for a joyful, hands-on Spanish immersion experience in Ms. Irma’s home garden! Children will explore nature, gardening, art, cooking, stories, music, STEAM, and seasonal traditions while learning & playing in Spanish. A warm, small-group experience designed to spark curiosity, creativity, & a love for Spanish.
Choose all three days or make your own schedule. 4 hours daily from 8am to 12pm.
Saturday Dec 5th 10am to 1pm Ages 4-10 Tamal Making Class!
Children will harvest fresh herbs from the garden and make their own mini tamales, learning how to prepare corn husks, spread masa, add fillings, and assemble their tamales before enjoying a shared meal. Through Spanish conversation, storytelling, and culturally affirming books, children will explore the Indigenous roots of tamales, the importance of maíz, and the food traditions of Latin America.

Spanish Tamale-Making Workshop for Kids
Come experience the joy of Spanish, food, culture, gardening, and literacy at My Escuelita Garden Classroom! In this hands-on two-hour workshop, children will make their own traditional tamales while learning and playing entirely in Spanish. Through cooking, gardening, storytelling, music, movement, games, and literacy activities, children will connect language learning to a meaningful cultural tradition.
Children will make 10–15 tamales to take home and explore The Great Tamale Treasure Hunt by Naibe Reynoso and Con Todo Press. We will garden, harvest, compost, play games, make art and dance too!

Tuesday Dec 29th Happy New Year! 10am-1pm Countdown in the garden! Ages 4-10
Celebrate Año Viejo and New Year traditions from Puerto Rico and Latin America through stories, music, Spanish conversation, and a festive countdown. Children will plant their wishes for the new year using biodegradable seed paper, explore the tradition of Los Reyes Magos, and enjoy a child-friendly coquito-inspired coconut drink as we welcome new beginnings, family traditions, and growth.
Spanish Halloween y Día de los Muertos Lesson
Explore Halloween and Día de los Muertos with this engaging -compare-and-contrast lesson! (over 40 pages!) Students will learn vocabulary, read short informational resources, use a Venn diagram to identify similarities and differences, and write a paragraph using evidence from the texts. My Escuelita Spanish Immersion Camp and Garden Classroom offer children joyful, hands-on learning experiences rooted in Spanish, nature, culture, and community. In our mixed-age garden classroom, children dig, plant, harvest, cook, create, explore, sing, dance, play, and learn together while developing Spanish through natural conversation, stories, music, games, and literacy.
Our seasonal camps and garden experiences celebrate the changing seasons, family traditions, holidays, Indigenous knowledge, and cultures from Latin America and beyond. From planting winter vegetables and exploring pumpkins to making tamales, celebrating Día de los Muertos, Año Viejo, Los Reyes Magos, and Lunar New Year, children learn through meaningful experiences that connect language, food, gardening, creativity, and community.
